Hotel Review: Capella Hotel, Shanghai

The ho Capella Hotel, Shanghai
The Location: Within Shanghai’s architectural heritage Jian Ye Li estate, the hotel is not situated in the center of the city, but rather one of my favorite areas of Shanghai – the French concession.
The design: A heritage hotel in Shanghai’s cultural preservation district, yet the hotel is super modern and clean cut.
The room: I wouldn’t even call it a room – you get a 5 floor traditional Shikumen house – which has a room on each floor – started with a living room and entrance that has a toilet, a small TV room on the room above, a full fledged bathroom (bath and shower), a beautiful master bedroom and ends with a cosy rooftop. There was a TV down, in the TV room and in the bedroom – as well as the latest Bose speakers.
The toiletteries: The hotel uses Italian brand, Acqua di Parma for all their toiletteries – and they even have snail masks available in the dressing room (extra points for Asian beauty products!) The slippers, towels and robes are all soft and cosy.
The restaurants: I dined between the main restaurant for breakfast, and room service. Breakfast was a small buffet, but everything from the a la carte menu to the continental breakfast was quality food and ingredients.
The coffee: I must say, it’s quite rare to get good coffee at hotels these days – and the coffee I’d get at breakfast during my stay was on point (they also had options of almond milk and soy.)
The spa: Yes – they have their newly opened Auriga spa. Hands down, it was the best massage I’ve ever had – Grace, my therapist released all the tension and migraines I was having that week.
The gym: They have a gym within their spa – luxury equipment by Technogym, hypoxi machines and private rooms as well.
The Room service: The food was brought with a basket – highly recommend their beef burger and fries. I judge good room service from their burger/club sandwich.
The service: Ace service – everyone was incredibly sweet and helpful. They also had a mix of Western and local staff which was great for China. The hotel had a ton of lovely touches like traditional gifts and educational culture notes left on the bed every night.
