Ideal for… previous Katsuya fans (the restaurant shut a while ago, and opened a brand new beautiful space with an alcohol license too!)
Restaurant name and location: Katsuya, Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel
Atmosphere: I was quite impressed by how full the restaurant was, having just opened recently. 90% of the diners were Emirati, which is always lovely to see.
What they say: Katsuya by Starck is an artistic union of Master Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi’s fresh take on Japanese classics with Design Impresario Philippe Starck’s sleek and sultry interiors. The restaurant’s signature Japanese Kanji Symbol ‘Katsu’ meaning ‘victory’ stands true to its name considering the loyal following the restaurant has won over with its inventive combination of Japanese and Californian cuisine. Suited for the American palate and carrying a global appeal, Katsuya is truly a multi-sensorial culinary voyage all through from the East to the West.
What to order:
-Seaweed salad (a little wet, but good)
-California rolls (all their sushi are quite good, but a good California makes me happy!)
-Japanese mushroom bop (This was one dish I couldn’t wait to have again!)
-Double chocolate lava cake (basically their version of the molten cake)
-Mochi (I’m quite picky once it comes to Mochi and the ones at Katsuya are perfection)
Service: Ace service – thank you Mahesh
What I loved:
-Katsuya always felt a little off being in a mall, and without an alcohol license – so this really adds the atmosphere back into such a world renowned restaurant.
-The space – it’s beautiful and spacious.
-As big and as busy, you still get quite a personalized experience.
