Five Favorite Beauty Buys – February 2016

Brushes: Real Techniques Bold Metals collection
Out of all the things in your makeup arsenal, makeup brushes are probably one of the few things that will last you years if you take care of them. So when I’m shopping for them, I end up being a picky buyer. (The cheapest brushes are usually the ones that barely last a few months.) I love the Real Techniques Bold Metals collection; they look super chic in your bathroom — quite fancy and sculpted in comparison to previous collections. I like the 100 one for loose powders post makeup and the 301 when I need a flat contour brush, but my favorite is the 101, a triangle foundation brush, which is flat with angled areas to get through tricky places, like around the eyes and nose.

Foundation: Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum foundation
A new Bobbi Brown launch I’m loving is the Intensive Skin Serum foundation, which works perfectly as a day time foundation. It features a blend of ingredients including lychee, bamboo grass, and cordyceps mushroom extracts, and includes SPF 40. It has a lovely natural finish that looks fresh and dewy, while protecting and helping the skin. Think of it as skincare and makeup in one!

Lipliner: NARS velvet lip liner in El Agua
As I love my matte lips, I’m a lipliner over lipstick kinda gal. I love the NARS Velvet lip liner in El Agua — a plum taupe shade. It glides on easily, stays on all day and leaves behind a creamy hydrated finish.

Eyes: The Body Shop Elderflower unperfumed Eye gel
As I have combination skin, and the skin around the eyes is quite delicate, I tend to avoid all heavy eye creams and stick to something quite light. I love this one by The Body Shop, which is also very affordable, because it actually hydrates (especially with the Elderflower ingredients) and feels quite nice when you put it on as it cools and refreshes — perfect after a late night.

Skin: Benefit Instant Oil blotting stick
I love anything that fits in a clutch or handbag. Every girl knows the worst thing that can happen on a night out is getting oily skin towards the end of the evening. Because a tissue will not blot, and will just pick up make up and cause the skin to redden, your only other option was to carry a powder compact (that can fall and crack — I’m talking from experience!) or oil blotting papers. That’s why I love this new product by Benefit, a stick that you use on oily patches to mattify skin right away.
