Ideal for… a Beirut favorite choice in Dubai
Restaurant name and location: Em Sherif, Downtown Dubai
Atmosphere: This place has been talked about before it even opened, so no doubt there was a full house on a weekday.
What they say (on the original Beirut location): Tucked away in the heart of Ashrafieh, Monot, Em Sherif is a distinguished fine-dining Oriental restaurant that offers unique, authentic Oriental cuisine which brings back forgotten traditional flavors, providing its guests with an unsurpassed first class dining experience. It is designed to represent an antique oriental mansion, lavish with luxury and Em Sherif’s own personal touch, as well as by its homey atmosphere where invitees are offered whatever is cooked daily. It is distinguished by its daily dish that promises to surprise clients’ palette, its wide variety of mezze and food, its refined service and its elegant decoration. Guests can also enjoy a shisha on the terrace.
Em Sherif herself carefully takes food and service supervising matters into her own hands, and makes sure clients are served delicious food that is adoringly cooked daily with the freshest and highest quality products.
What to order: You don’t have to worry as they literally just bring selections to the table, and the menu changes depending on seasonal ingredients.
My favourites dishes included: Manakich Zaatar, Moutabbal, Labneh Harra, Burghul bil banadoura, Kebabs and Mouhallabiye
Service: Service was great, but my friend was English and it was very difficult for the waiters to explain the dishes in English. (This is important especially as the guest doesn’t choose what to order)
What I loved:
-You don’t have to worry about ordering, and you know you’ll be leaving with a good meal.
-You end up trying dishes that you wouldn’t usually order, come in with an open mind!
-The interiors of the restaurant are just gorgeous… I found myself snapping away.
What I didn’t love as much:
-No light lunches here. You need to be ready to eat if you’d like to come. It’s not a place for a quick and light lunch!
-It’s one of those places that are better off only with drop offs (a driver or taxi) – Valet parking is available at The Address Downtown, but beware if you’re wearing uncomfortable shoes, it’s quite a walk.
