I mean, if there was one show to watch during Paris Fashion Week, it has to be Chanel. I have attended the Chanel shows for numerous seasons – they are always at the same venue – The Grand Palais, yet Karl seems to reinvent each venue into a different look depending on the collection. This collection was all about Art & Picasso – the invites came in Canvas form, and once you arrived the venue looked like an art gallery, the show soundtrack with JayZ’s Picasso Baby! The Chanel front rows are always impressive – this one included Kate Upton, Rita Ora, Katy Perry and Clemence Poesy to name a few. On to the collection, This season was definitely bright, filled with neons and ruffled dresses with coveted Chanel Accessories. I’ve also never seen Karl walk the full runway whilst smiling. If Karl’s happy, everyone’s happy!
Moving on to another collection that I was looking forward to – Valentino. Olivia Palermo, Jessica Hart, Ciara and Angie Harmon headed the front row. This season, Valentino went a little more royal with a palette of Emeralds and Aubergine featuring leather fringe, detailed embroidery, Boxy leather laser cut jackets, and sequins. The looks were regal with royal long gowns and gold stud headbands. All I can say is embroidery is huge for Spring ’14.
Ended the day with Paul and Joe – a French brand that is super casual, easy to wear and always fun. Before the show, I headed backstage to speak to the designer, Sophie Albou-Mechaly. When I asked her what this collection was inspired by, she told me… “This collection is inspired by Fashion Photography of the supermodels, Elle Macpherson to Cindy Crawford coming out of the beach. Today, unfortunately – Fashion makes women look too skinny and too sad. At this time, it was all about food, happiness, and gymnastics. Just look fantastic with curves! The girls today aren’t as curvy as I’d have wanted them to be, but this is what we had.” Was there a modern girl in mind? If she had to choose a girl for this collection, “It would have to be someone fun, someone funny – like Kate Hudson!” Easy dresses, relaxed trousers and Flowers played a large part of this collection (flowers were also left on the seat!)
