NYFW Fall '13: Katie Ermilio, Clover Canyon & Ralph Lauren.

A collection I was looking forward to check out during NYFW was Katie Ermilio, who showed at the Empire Hotel, which is right opposite The Lincoln Center. An Art history major, and the grand daughter of Grace Kelly’s personal clothier, Katie, caught my eye during Spring/Summer ’13 and couldn’t wait to see what she had in store for this season. The collection, which was styled by Natalie Joos, was dramatic in the most simple way, glamorous,  yet versatile. Among the collection, there were cocktail dresses, fur strips, and ball gowns, with a palette ranging with muted tones.

Ended my day with the Clover Canyon presentation at the Box at Lincoln Center. The LA brand, which is known for their graphic prints was heavily inspired by Russia for Fall ’13. Everything from the opulence Hermitage to Kazmir Malevich’s graphic constructivism, the unparalleled expressive grace of the Ballets Russes and the boundless Siberian plain. The prints were thrown on to fitted silhouettes, to full skirts and dresses. Embellishments played a large role in the collection, where the models also wore embellished ballerina flats.

Last day of New York Fashion week, and my last show before welcoming my cousin to New York City was Ralph Lauren – which took place on Washington street. I ended the week with a full Stella McCartney look (checkered monochromatic blazer and navy pencil skirt). This season, Ralph Lauren was inspired by Russia. That was mixed with his signature all American look (of course.) The collection featured the typical cable knit sweaters, wide belts, leather coats and an American prep blazer. The Russian touch was welcomed within folk inspired pieces such as jewel tones, velvet dresses, maxi skirts, shearling and evening wear with Russian fur hats. It really is the year of the Russians…
